Synthos expands operations in the energy sector
Synthos, a leader in the chemical industry and part of Michał Sołowow’s MS Galleon Group, is taking another strategic step towards the development of modern energy solutions. The company is consistently pursuing an energy transition aimed at delivering stable and sustainable energy – both for its own plants and for the broader economy.
Synthos is no longer just a chemical company—we are also becoming a key player in the energy sector. We are building long-term, modern solutions that support not only our production but also Poland’s energy stability, says Zbigniew Warmuz, CEO of Synthos S.A.
In response to the challenges of the energy transition, Synthos is expanding its activities in the field of green energy, investing in low- and zero-emission energy sources such as biogas, energy storage systems, and hydrogen technologies.
Through these initiatives, Synthos is not only improving energy efficiency but also contributing to the advancement of modern technologies that support the energy transition and enable the implementation of more sustainable and intelligent energy solutions.
Such an example is the investment completed at the beginning of 2025 for the construction of a steam-gas unit (CCGT) at the Oświęcim production plant, which reduced CO2 emissions associated with the manufacture of Synthos products by more than 20% compared to CO2 emissions in the base year of 2021. This is another step towards reducing greenhouse gases, in line with Evergreen’s sustainable development strategy.
With the introduction of CCGT, part of the hard coal used for electricity and heat production has been replaced with natural gas, reducing emissions and decreasing the amount of waste generated. As part of the project, a gas turbine, a steam turbine, and a heat recovery boiler were installed. The unit has now commenced operations and has been handed over for use.
This and future investments supporting the energy transition will enable the complete elimination of coal as a fuel in the Oświęcim combined heat and power plant.
Innovation-Driven Energy Solutions
Changing the fuel mix in production is just one pillar of Synthos’ sustainable development strategy. The Group is investing in the development of modern low- and zero-emission energy sources to enhance energy security.
One of the first steps towards diversifying energy sources at the Oświęcim plants was the launch of cogeneration units powered by mine gas in 2012, along with a cogeneration unit fuelled by biogas from fermentation chambers. In 2020, the company installed a 1 MWp photovoltaic farm. Currently, Synthos is evaluating further renewable energy projects that will support the Group’s energy transition.
Modern energy sources will enhance supply security and enable further cost optimisation. Through these initiatives, Synthos is not only adapting to new environmental regulations but also ensuring modern and efficient energy sources for its operations.
