Synthos – the leading Polish applicant of patent filings to the European Patent Office
According to the recently published EPO Technology Dashboard 2025 report (#EPOTechDashboard), Polish innovators filed more than 600 patent applications with the European Patent Office in 2025. Against the long‑standing dominance of universities and research institutions in national statistics, the growing activity of private companies is becoming increasingly visible. In 2025, Synthos ranked first among all Polish entities.
In 2025, Polish innovators filed 621 applications with the EPO – a decrease of 10.3% compared to 2024, but still 58% more than in 2016. Poland maintains a stable position in the European innovation landscape, holding 12th place among EU countries in terms of the number of filings.
Synthos’s patent applications focus on technologies related, among others, to rubber and insulation materials – areas that support the development of technologies aligned with sustainability goals, while also delivering real value to our direct customers and final users of our solutions.
“Taking first place among all Polish entities is one of the indicators of the changes taking place in the Polish innovation system. For many years, patent filings in Poland were dominated by universities and public institutions. Private companies, however, are increasingly discovering their role in this field by conducting their own research that results in new inventions. In our case, it is the effect of the systematic work of teams operating in Synthos R&D centres, developing technologies that address specific market needs and the industries in which we operate,” says Piotr Cywiński, IP Expert at Synthos.
In 2025, a record over 200,000 patent applications submitted to the European Patent Office confirmed the continuously strong market attractiveness of Europe. Against this backdrop, the growing role of Polish companies – including Synthos – signals the ongoing maturation of the national research ecosystem and the increasing importance of industrial innovation in technological development.
